The Northland Masonry Trades Association was originally formed in 1988 and successfully brought together a number of tradesmen from thoughout the northland area we have members from Kaitaia to Mangawhai.
In 2002 a new committee was formed and decided to take the Association to another level and into a more pro active entity that is able to comment on and work with regulators such as the Dept of Housing and local councils in an effort to improve communication between the tradesman and the regulators responsible for implementing laws and requirements.
This approach has proven to be very effective with as steady flow of information coming into the Association to be distributed to the members.
In 2007 the Northland Trades Association joined the New Zealand Brick and Blocklayers Federation. This now gives us a voice at a national level. Together with the other members of the Federation we are able to submit our ideas and concerns to the Department Of Housing as well as act as an adviser on matters related to our trade.
The Northland Masonry Trades Association is very aware that as a trade we need to encourage young people to be aware of the benefits a bricklaying qualification would give them . To facilitate this, the Association is now applying to become an Incorporated Society so that we can set up a training system to help school leavers to do a pre apprenticeship course. We will be working with industry leaders and schools to put this into practice.
